The Makhanda High Court is ordering the Eastern Cape Education Department to deliver
learning materials to pupils by March 31. The department originally indicated that the
materials would be delivered by the end of April because of “unprecedented budgeting
shortfalls”. LSR Senior Council Advocate Ngcukaitobi stated that this is ‘not good enough
and Judge Louw agreed and moved the date to the end of March.
Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane will have to report to the judge every three months. This
in regards to the implementation of a financial recovery plan for the Makana Municipality.
In January 2020 Judge Igna Stretch ruled that the service delivery failures were so severe and
widespread that it violated the Constitution and justified the dissolution of the municipal
council.
Leopard Trek, a group initiative aimed at raising funds to support Graeme College students,
came up with the idea of hosting a cycling fundraiser. To date, the organization has raised
R80 000, some of which is going towards helping Simnikiwe Bosman who got his leg
amputated last year after sustaining an injury from tackling another player during a rugby
game.

A woman by the name of Phumla Brunette Stofile has been reported missing after
having last been seen on 18 February. Her family suspects that she has been trafficked
after not returning from a date with a man that the family knows as Thando.
A 15-year-old boy was arrested in connection to the murder of both his parents. He
appeared in Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court after the incident but has been released in
the custody of a family member.
The Central University of Technology is being held responsible for not taking action and
allowing its Vice chancellor to leave prematurely after an investigation that
recommended he face some form of disciplinary action for failing to respond to
sexual allegations made against the deputy.
